A little boy has lost his Nanny to an illness. His Nanny being gone is a concept he finds difficult to understand. Where Did My Nanny Go? tells the story of a Grandmother’s passing, from a little boy’s point of view.

Note to Parents:

When my mum passed away a few years ago, my family and I were all devastated.  Although we knew she was sick, no one expected her to pass on so soon.  My son at the time was nearly three and a half years old and like all children his age, full of questions.  Although we had told him Nanny had died; he struggled to get his young mind around the whole concept.  He struggled to make sense of the process. So I went on the hunt for a book that would help me explain the process to him.  I wanted a book that explained the process to him but also suggested the concept of there being something more after this life, without focusing on any particular religion.

I was unable to find such a book, so I went about trying to write my own. I wrote the first take of this book not long after mum passed away, and then put it away in a draw.  Earlier this year I decided I was ready to revisit it again, and this is how this book came about. The story and its characters are based on my beautiful late mum and my now five and a half year old gorgeous son.

In an ideal world, where we had more time to prepare, I am sure this is how his Nanny would have explained the process to him.  This is based on my mum’s beliefs of what happens once we pass on and touches on the concept of spirituality.
